Wednesday is the busiest travel day of the year as people try to make it home for Thanksgiving Day. Triple-A Nebraska spokesperson Rose White says expect company if you are traveling.
Nationwide, about 42.5-million Americans will be traveling 50-miles or more from home this Thanksgiving holiday period. White says that is up 4% from last year. Nearly 90% of those traveling will do so by car and about 8% will fly.
White says this is the first significant increase in any holiday travel so far this year. Numbers for the Memorial Day remained steady and there was a 2% drop in travel over the 4th of July weekend as well as Labor Day. White says many Americans didn’t travel over the last few years and now they have a strong desire to reconnect with family.
