NU volleyball has their own "Rooty" starting this weekend

Husker volleyball co-captain Brigette Root will most likely get a chance to start as a setter with the suspension of Lauren Cook. Root played for her dad Bill at Grand Island where she helped lead the Islanders to two runner up finishes in state. She played in one match as a freshman and three as a sophomore with the Huskers, but did not play last season. Head coach John Cook says her nickname is “Rooty,” a spoof taken from the Notre Dame movie “Rudy,” since both players were walk-ons.  Here teammates love her spirit.
The No. 2 Nebraska volleyball team returns home this weekend to take on the No. 23 Michigan Wolverines on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. and the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. The Huskers (18-2, 11-1) went 1-1 over the weekend, topping No. 23 Ohio State 3-1, but falling 3-1 at No. 8 Penn State.  Michigan and Nebraska have met five times and Nebraska leads the all-time series 4-1. The last time the two programs met was on Oct. 1, 2011. The Huskers swept the Wolverines, 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-16).
Michigan State and Nebraska have met 11 times, with Nebraska leading the series 9-0-2. The last time the two programs met was on Sept. 30, 2011. The Huskers beat the Spartans, 3-2 (27-25, 16-25, 21-25, 25-17, 16-14).
