Crete woman gets jailtime for blowing $300K in mom's money

A southeast Nebraska woman who blew her mother’s life savings is heading to jail.
Fifty-two-year-old Mary Meredith of Crete was appointed her mother’s guardian in 2007.
Court records show that in the last four years, she’s burned through $300,000 from her mother’s account.
The mother was in an assisted living center and police say the daughter spent so much cash, there was none left to pay the center’s bill.
Meredith pleaded no contest to a charge of abuse of a vulnerable adult. She’s ordered to spend 180 days in jail, along with five years probation.
