Creighton soccer moves back into first place tie in MVC play

Behind two goals from All-American Ethan Finlay, the third-ranked Creighton men’s soccer team remained unbeaten at home with a dominating 2-0 victory over Drake on Wednesday night in front of 2,236 fans at Morrison Stadium.
Creighton, which improved to 14-2-0 on the season and 3-1-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play, is a perfect 7-0-0 at Morrison Stadium this fall. Drake fell to 10-6-1 and 3-2-0 in Valley play. With the victory and Bradley’s 1-0 win over Missouri State Wednesday night, the Bluejays moved into a tie for first place in the MVC. Creighton, Missouri State and Drake each have nine points on the year, with CU and MSU both owning 3-1-0 league marks.
In the first half, Creighton outshot the Bulldogs 9-1, putting four chances on goal in the first 45 minutes, but to no avail.
As the Bluejays have done all season long, they turned their attack up a notch in the second half, finally breaking through against Drake in the 69th minute. After Finlay missed a great scoring opportunity in the 56th minute, he atoned for the miss 13 minutes later, scoring from nearly the same spot he missed from earlier in the half.
Finlay took a through ball from freshman Jose Ribas and slotted it past Jordan Kadlec in goal for his 10th score of the season. In the 78th minute he tacked on his second goal of the night, taking a feed from Kris Clark to score his 40th career goal.
Creighton outshot Drake 20-2 on the night, as CU keeper Brian Holt didn’t need to make a save to earn his 11th shutout of the fall and extend his school and MVC record with his 38th career shutout. The victory was the 50th of Holt’s career and came in a game where he passed Matt Allen’s school record for minutes played by a goalkeeper.
