Burroughs wins wrestling gold at Pan Am Games

Former Husker Jordan Burroughs won the gold medal and 163 pound title at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico on Monday. Burroughs became the first Pan American champion from Nebraska since Ryan Tobin captured gold in 1996.
Burroughs earned his honor as top wrestler in the world after defeating Yurierki Blanco (Cuba) in the finals, 3-2, 3-2. Blanco finished second at the 2011 Pan American Championships and was a 2011 World Cup Champion.
In order to reach the finals, Burroughs had to defeat Venezuela’s Ricardo Roberty, who finished fifth at the World Championships in Turkey. The former two-time national champion took down Roberty, 2-1, 1-1, to advance. In his first match, Burroughs took care of Jose Mercado (Ecuador) in dominant fashion, 7-0, 6-0.
