Keystone man appeals sentence in kidnapping & sex assault case

A Keith County man is appealing his sentence after pleading guilty in an abduction and rape case.
Twenty-one-year-old Jade Cleveland of Keystone pleaded guilty in September to kidnapping and sexual assault charges for an incident that took place in October, 2010.
Court records say Cleveland abducted a 17-year-old girl from her home in Ogallala at knifepoint and took her into rural Keith County where he sexually assaulted her.
After pleading guilty, Cleveland was given two consecutive terms of 15-30 years in prison, minus 122 days of time served on one sentence.
Last week, Cleveland’s attorney, Bob Lindemeier of North Platte, filed an appeal of that decision. Lindemeier only said the appeal was due to the length of the sentence, but didn’t comment further.
Lindemeier said Cleveland was likely going to have a different attorney handle the proceedings.
