Winter storm headed this way!

The region is bracing for a blast of wintry weather to close out the year.  The National Weather Service in North Platte is calling for more than 6 inches of new snow between Thursday and Friday in some areas of the state. An arctic cold front and a developing storm system are expected to cause snow and blowing snow across western and north central Nebraska beginning Thursday afternoon. The storm is expected to then spread across the remainder of the state from Thursday night into Friday. Gusty winds are predicted with this system which could make travel dangerous across most of Nebraska due to blizzard-like conditions. The service says the highest accumulations will likely occur in the northern part of the state over the next couple of days. Officials are warning travelers to take precautions now to avoid being caught in a dangerous situation Thursday and Friday.
