Big Red Report–Steinkuhler suspended, Big Ten Bowls

I’ll start with news that came from head coach Bo Pelini yesterday, that sophomore defensive tackle Baker Steinkuhler will be suspended and not play in the Holiday Bowl following his arrest for DUI on early Tuesday morning. Police Capt. David Beggs says the 21-year-old Steinkuhler was stopped around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday because he was driving in downtown Lincoln without headlights and he failed to signal a turn. Police say Steinkuhler’s blood-alcohol content measured 0.115 percent, above the legal limit of 0.08. Steinkuhler started all 13 games and has 46 tackles and 3½ sacks.
Earlier this week, the Big Ten came out and said after concluding their studies and research, decided that expansion beyond 12 teams does not make sense. Since Nebraska will begin play in the Big Ten next year, let’s look at what the Big Ten is doing this bowl season, this is one of the better seasons for the conference. Eight of the 11 teams from the Big Ten are playing in bowl games. By comparison, nine from the SEC, eight in the Big 12.
