Hastings soccer gains national championship and runner-up finish

No. 3-seed Hastings handled No. 4 Notre Dame (Ohio), 5-3 to win its first-ever NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship. The Broncos received goals from four different players to end the season with a school-record 25-0 mark. Hastings set a Tournament record for most goals scored with 21 in five matches, including 15 in the last three games.

Lee (Tenn.) captured its third-straight NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship, defeating Hastings 3-0 Saturday.  Lee has now taken the title in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Hastings advanced to the title game in just its second appearance in the event, a run that included upsets of the Nos. 16, 1 and 9-seeded teams. After starting out the season with a 1-4-1 record through the first six games, the Broncos went on to win 14-straight matches. They close out their campaign with a record of 17-5-3.
