After Millard South jumped to a 20-17 halftime lead by scoring the game’s first 17 points, it was North’s turn to do the damage in the third quarter, scoring three touchdowns on their way to a 28-20 Class A championship win.
West Point Central Catholic’s Cody Stalp scored six touchdowns as the Bluejays claimed their first C-1 title in their first year of eight-man football with a 45-30 win over number one ranked Creighton.
Howell’s strong running game led to a 46-7 win over Sargent for the Class C-2 title. It is Howells’ ninth state championship, all since 2000, and its third straight, although it’s the Bobcats’ first in Class D-2.
This morning at 10:15, it’s the C-2 Final with No. 1 Hastings SC (12-0) vs. No. 4 Archbishop Bergan (12-0). St. Cecilia has 6’10 and 6’4 defensive ends and their pass rush will be key against Bergan who already holds the C-1 passing record.
At 2:45, No. 1 Norfolk Catholic (12-0) vs. No. 2 Pierce (11-1). Pierce and Norfolk Catholic meet every year and have met in the playoffs twice in six years, including the 1999 championship (won by Norfolk Catholic). Between them, they have four titles since 2004.
Tonight’s 7:15 matchup pits No. 2 Crete (12-0) vs. No. 7 Elkhorn (10-2) battle. Elkhorn must deal with Brock Sherman. Crete’s big back has gained over 2,100 yards with 35 touchdowns this season.
