Creighton men's soccer hopes to follow women's lead

The Missouri Valley Conference regular season champions and topped seeded Bluejays will play for their 12th MVC Tournament title in Peoria, Ill. The 12th-ranked Bluejays earned a bye into the semifinals, where they will play the winner of No. 4 Drake-No. 5 Bradley first round match. Creighton plays at 6 pm on Friday.
Creighton captured its MVC record 10th regular-season championship this season, putting together a 5-1-1 Valley campaign. CU won its first four games, all coming on shutouts this season, and jumped out to its best start since 1998 and started 4-0-0 in the MVC for the first time since 1999.
The Jays enter the MVC Tournament with 32 goals in 17 matches, good for second in the league. CU’s 37 assists lead the conference, paced by sophomore Dion Acoff’s league leading nine which ranks ninth in the NCAA this week.
Preseason All-American forward Ethan Finlay, a MAC Hermann Trophy candidate, is tied for the league-lead and ranks eighth in the NCAA with 12 goals and leads the MVC and ranks 11th in the NCAA with 28 points – the most by a Bluejay since 2002.
