Big Red Report–Martinez to start vs. Kansas

The Huskers had one healthy quarterback last game in Cody Green and when he had his bell rung, Taylor Martinez ran out there for a play while Rex Burkhead ran the wildcat. Bo Pelini says Taylor’s ankle is getting better and Zac Lee’s sore arm is coming along as well. Taylor Martinez will start this week against Kansas and one of the reasons the Huskers have been able to keep a high level of success despite missing players at key positions throughout the season has been the depth of this roster.

Also, going back to Turner Gill’s Jayhawks and their 35 point rally against Colorado last Saturday to win 52-45 after they were down 45-17 just into the fourth quarter. Their running back James Sims who had four touchdowns scored with 11:05 to play in the game. Then KU recovered an onside kick and scored on that possession. Then they forced a fumble and returned it for a touchdown. On CU’s next drive, they got picked off and KU took over and scored again on a touchdown by Sims to tie the game at 45-45 with 4:30 to play. After holding the Buffs to a three and out, KU got another touchdown from Sims with :46 left to take the lead, but Colorado got the ball down to the seven and had two shots at the end zone. An incredible game.
