Sports nuggets–H.S. football, wrestling and NU soccer

After this football season, Tom Jaworski is retiring after 39 years as Creighton Prep’s head coach. He is the all-time winningest coach in Nebraska prep history, with a 343-91 record and nine state championships going into tonight’s game with Millard South.
The single season record holder for wins in wrestling is choosing corn over ivy. Austin Wilson who went 48-0 for Hastings St. Cecilia accepted the Huskers offer to come wrestle in Lincoln after making recruiting trips to Columbia, Penn and Princeton. Wilson is a two-time Class C champion and needs 39 wins to tie the career record of 172 wins set in 2008 by Lincoln East’s Drew Etherton.
The Nebraska soccer team entered the Big 12 championships with a national RPI of 54 and got a bump with their 4-1 win over Missouri. Now a win tonight over second seeded Oklahoma State will go a long way in solidifying a spot in the NCAA tournament. NU is 13-6-1.
