Creighton women grab exhibition win

Creighton had six players score in double-figures in a 96-61 exhibition victory over Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday. The game was Creighton’s lone exhibition game before starting the regular season next Friday.
Creighton opened with a 19-0 lead while holding the Bearcats scoreless for nearly seven minutes to open the game. Kelsey Woodard scored the first eight points of the game. Creighton would later lead 27-4 and eventually achieved its largest margin of the half at 34-8 with eight minutes remaining.
Creighton led 53-28 at the half behind 11 from Woodard and nine points each by freshmen Sarah Nelson and Carli Tritz.
The second half saw Creighton own its largest lead of the game at 81-40 after Nelson scored inside off a fancy pass from Tritz. The Jays also led 90-49 with seven minutes left before scoring just six more points the rest of the way.
Creighton was led in scoring by 16 points from Sarah Nelson, while sister Kellie Nelson had 14 points. Woodard finished with 13 points, Sam Schuett had 12 points, Tritz had 11 points and Jordan Garrison notched 10.
Creighton will open the 2010-11 regular season on Friday, Nov. 12, with a 1 pm game vs. Liberty in opening-round action of the Sheraton Raleigh Wolfpack Invitational in Raleigh, N.C.
