Lincoln East students suspended after stunt at soccer game

It is called the “green card game” and several Lincoln East High School students have been suspended after an incident Tuesday. Lincoln East defeated Omaha South in a championship soccer game. After Lincoln East’s victory, several students apparently tossed the green cards onto the field. Those cards were an apparent reference to the immigration status of South High students. About 60-percent of the schools population is Latino.
Lincoln East administrators did pull in about 30 students Wednesday for questioning. Less than a handful was suspended. Now, Lincoln East students are being asked to sign a card of apology for the incident. That card/letter will be sent to Omaha South High School.
