Gaby Hernandez, on a 90 pitch limit threw six no-hit innings and the Nashville Sounds were no-hit for seven innings as the Royals won 4-0 Tuesday night at Rosenblatt Stadium.
Hernandez (1-0), a 23-year old right-hander who was claimed by Kansas City off waivers from the Boston Red Sox last month, walked three batters including the first two Sounds who came to the plate in the sixth inning. Nashville starter Kameron Loe (1-1) took the first loss for the Sounds, who came into the game as the PCL’s last unbeaten club at 5-0. The win snapped a four-game losing skid for the Royals, who improved to 2-4.
Wilson Betemit finished 2-4 with a homer, his second in two games and two RBI’s.
Game three of the series, tied at 1-1, is Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. Nashville lefty Chuck Lofgren (1-0, 3.18) faces Omaha right-hander Philip Humber (0-0, 9.00).
