The State of Nebraska is taking advantage of more than $40 million in stimulus funding to help the unemployed.
The money could not be used by the state until they came up with a plan for how to spend the dollars on people who usually would not receive unemployment. This includes people who voluntarily quit their jobs, but have gone a lengthy period of time without finding a new one.
One major aspect of this bill is the training that will be required along with the money. The unemployed would go through a 26 week training course while receiving their benefits. Senator Steve Lathrop of Omaha says this will help those without a job transition into a higher paying job once their benefits have dried up.
The stimulus money will also prevent a major increase in the unemployment tax on employers.
