The Cornhuskers scored twice in the first and twice in the fifth before the Bluejays rallied with a three run home run from Amy Baker in the sixth and put the tying run on second base in the seventh. Nebraska held on for a 4-3 win at Creighton, giving the Huskers their first road win of the season.
The win moves NU to 22-17 on the season, while dropping the Bluejays to 16-17. It’s been a great week for the freshmen Baker of CU. She went 5 for 5 with three homers in a double header on Monday and followed that up with the three run blast in this game. She now has four homers and 11 RBIs this week.
Robin Makin picked up the win for NU, while Tara Oltman denied her 100th career win for CU. Oltman walked five in this game and wasn’t as sharp as she can be. Mackin was on a roll where she retired seven hitters in a row, then after a baserunner reached, retired another eight in a row.
Mackin allowed just two hits, walked one and struck out 10 in six innings, while all three runs she allowed were unearned. Ashley Hagemann picked up her second save of the season with one inning of scoreless relief.
