Not a good night at the plate for the Nebraska Cornhusker bats as they drop the first game of their three game series with the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Nebraska could only manage five hits as they lose 8-2.
OSU starting pitcher Thomas Keeling would shut out Nebraska for seven innings. He would give up just four singles, while hitting three Huskers and walking four.
The Cowboys would get on the board with one run in the third. They would then tag on three more runs in the fourth. OSU would later put more runs across the plate with two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
Nebraska would finally get on the board in their last at bat, thanks to a two run home run from Adam Bailey. This was Bailey’s 10th of the season, which is tops right now in the Big 12.
Husker starting pitcher Michael Mariot would pitch seven innings, giving up eight runs, seven of them earned, on 11 hits. He is now 2-4 on the season with an ERA of 5.16.
With the loss, Nebraska is now 14 – 12 on the season and 2-5 in Big 12 play.
The two teams will continue their series this afternoon at Allie P. Reynolds Field in Stillwater. Neither team has announced who will be their starting pitchers today. Game time is 2:00.
