Nebraska’s Kelsey Griffin will be one of the top women’s basketball prospects invited to 2010 WNBA Draft on Thursday, April 8. The Draft will begin at 2 p.m. our time on ESPN2. Griffin is certainly a first round selection and could easily be the one of the choices of the Minnesota Lynx who have the 2nd and 3rd overall pick.
I would expect the Connecticut Sun to take a UCONN player. It would make sense from a geographical standpoint for a midwest team to select Griffin.
In addition to Griffin, Nebraska’s Cory Montgomery and Yvonne Turner were included in the WNBA’s Official Draft Guide. Here’s the first round order.
1. Connecticut Sun
2. Minnesota Lynx
3. Minnesota Lynx
4. Chicago Sky
5. San Antonio Silver Stars
6. Washington Mystics
7. Tulsa Shock
8. Los Angeles Sparks
9. Atlanta Dream
10. Seattle Storm
11. Indiana Fever
12. Los Angeles Sparks
Kelsey Griffin’s was also named one of five members of the 2010 John R. Wooden All-America Team and is among the finalists is 2009 Wooden Award given to the top college player in the country.
Griffin is Nebraska’s first-ever Wooden All-American. She was named Big 12 Player-of-the-Year for averaging 20.1 points and 10.4 rebounds per game while leading Nebraska to the best season in school history. Griffin also ranked among national leaders in field goal percentage (59.6 percent), while shattering Nebraska’s game, season and career free throw records.
The 34th John R. Wooden Award Presentation Gala will be held at 6:30 p.m. on April 9 at The Los Angeles Athletic Club, the next day after the first round of the WNBA draft.
