Nebraska’s northern panhandle area is being peppered with pine trees.
Some 15,000 pine seedlings have been planted in Fort Robinson State Park in western Nebraska, thanks to the efforts of about 1,000 Boy Scouts.
The scouts planted the seedlings last weekend as part of their annual tree-planting effort.
The Boy Scouts began planting trees at Fort Robinson in 1990 – the year after fire burned more than 48,000 acres on and around the park, including 22,000 acres of trees.
Since then, the organization has planted more than 350,000 tree seedlings at the park. Fort “Rob” as it is often referred to locally is located just west of Crawford.
