Husker Softball Heads To Texas

The 17-13 Nebraska softball team is deep in the heart of Texas to open Big 12 Conference play against one of the top teams in the nation.  The Huskers will start a two game series this afternoon against the number 15 Texas Longhorns.
Streaks will be the story of this game for Nebraska.  The Huskers start their series this weekend with the Longhorns on a four game winning streak.  This came after Nebraska had dropped two in a row.
Nebraska will also be looking to stop their four game losing streak this season to teams in the top 25.  The only win the Huskers have this season against the top 25 was back at the end of February against Georgia Tech.
This will also be the seventh straight year that Nebraska has opened their Big 12 Conference season on the road.  The downside of starting away from home has meant five straight season opening losses for the Huskers.  The last time Nebraska won a season opener was in 2004 at Oklahoma State.
The final streak that the Huskers will be trying to break is an eight game road losing streak.  Dating back to last season, Nebraska has dropped 10 road games in a row.
Texas brings their very potent offense into this game.  The Longhorns are leading the Big 12 with 47 home runs and also have the best slugging percentage in the conference at .538.  Texas is also averaging nearly nearly six runs per ballgame.  Six of their players are also hitting better than .300 this season.
Nebraska has done alright for itself at the plate this season as they are hitting almost .300 as a team.  They have hit 22 round trippers and, like Texas, are averaging more than five runs per game.
Game one of the series will start this afternoon at 1:00 at McCombs field with game two starting tomorrow at high noon.
