The future of the State Treasurer’s office is in your hands. A resolution that would allow voters to decide on a Constitutional amendment to eliminate the State Treasurer’s office has passed on final round. The question will be on the November ballot.
Some Senators say the work done by the Treasurer’s office can be done by other State departments such as the Department of Revenue. Opponents of the bill say all this will save the taxpayers is the Treasurer’s salary. They think the current worker will just be moved to another department, actually making Government bigger.
If voters say yes to eliminating the Treasurer’s office, it will take effect in 20-15. Whomever replaces current State Treasurer Shane Osborne will have the job of finding ways to eliminate their own position.
