Nebraska cost study on death penalty denied

A cost analysis of the death penalty versus sentencing someone to life in prison will not happen after Senator Brenda Council of Omaha’s bill calling for that study failed to advance in the legislature. Senator Scott Lautenbaugh of Omaha says doing the study would have been a waste of time.
“There is no point in doing this, because as we learned last time we debated the death penalty, the people who are opposed to capitol punishment aren’t going to be swayed by the outcome of this, they’re going to oppose it no matter what, they were very clear about that.”
Council is a known opponent of the death penalty.
