Creighton men to host Fairfield

Creighton University men’s basketball team will host Fairfield on Monday (March 22) in quarterfinal round action of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. The game will start at 7:05 pm at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
Creighton (17-15) advanced to the quarterfinals with an 89-78 win over South Dakota on Tuesday, the same night that Fairfield (23-10) won 101-96 in overtime at George Mason while making the largest comeback in NCAA Division I postseason history (down 27 points with 16 minutes left).
Creighton is led by junior center Kenny Lawson Jr., who averages 12.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocked shots per game, while senior forward Justin Carter averages 9.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Creighton’s bench averages 26.5 points and 14.6 rebounds per game and outscored South Dakota’s reserves 56-18 on Tuesday. The Bluejays are coached by Dana Altman, who owns a 326-175 record in his 16th year at Creighton. Creighton finished fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 10-8 league record this season.
Fairfield boasts a young team, with two sophomores and two freshmen among its starting five. Leading the Stags in scoring is freshman guard Derek Needham (16.5 ppg., 5.2 apg.) and senior forward Anthony Johnson (16.0 ppg., 9.9 rpg.).
Creighton and Fairfield have never previously met.
