Brester, Dwyer earn All-American honors

Nebraska senior wrestlers Craig Brester (197) and Stephen Dwyer (174) each won their quarterfinal matches and secured All-America status to advance to Friday night’s semifinal round in the 2010 NCAA Championships at Qwest Center Omaha.
Dwyer will be wrestling in the semifinals for the first time in his career, while Brester is making a repeat appearance after advancing to the finals in 2009.
Dwyer earned All-American status for the second time in his career by taking down unseeded Jarion Beets of Northern Iowa, 4-0. After a scoreless first period in which Beets narrowly escaped a number of Dwyer’s takedown attempts, the senior broke the scoreless match in the second period with an escape point to go up 1-0. Dwyer was awarded a stalling point and finished the second period with a takedown to take a 4-0 lead. Through three matches, Dwyer has yet to surrender a point at the 2010 NCAA Championships.
Brester was equally as dominant in his 9-0 victory over the No. 7 Anthony Biondo of Michigan to earn his third straight All-American honor. The Howells, Neb., native jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the first two periods and cruised to the 9-0 victory, amassing 3 minutes, 34 seconds of riding time. Brester has shut out his last two opponents after defeating Purdue’s Logan Brown, 8-0, in the second round. In the first round, Brester pinned Rider’s Tyler Smith.
In his semifinal match, Brester will take on No. 3 Hudson Taylor of Maryland. They have not faced each other since the 2008 National Duals, where Brester took a 7-4 decision.
