Nebraska banks and customers put on alert

Attorney General Jon BruningAttorney General Jon Bruning says significant time and preparation went into a scam that took place in the Broken Bow area and he is putting all Nebraska banks and their customers on alert. Bruning says someone from Romania learned the name of the receptionist at a Broken Bow bank, then called customers pretending to be her and asking for customers personal information. About 50 people were scammed out of around five thousand dollars.
“If you did not initiate the contact be skeptical, if you initiated it you call the bank you know who you are getting on the other end, but if it’s an email or a phone call or a piece of mail that you didn’t initiate, be skeptical.”
Bruning thinks the Romanian people responsible for this scam may have been working with Americans to complete the scam. He says towns like Lincoln and Omaha are less likely to be targeted because there are too many banks. About 50 people were scammed out of around five thousand dollars.
