Carson Vitale highlighted a four-run eighth inning for Creighton with his two run homer to spark a Bluejays 7-4 victory at #25 Kansas State. Vitale finished the game 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI. In three career games against Kansas State he is hitting .625 (5-for-8) with two home runs and three RBI.
The eighth inning came with Creighton clinging to a 3-2 lead. With one out, Elliot Soto singled and scored on Trever Adams double to the right field corner. On the next pitch, T.J. Roemmich singled to score Adams. After a pitching change, Vitale’s shot to left gave the Jays the insurance they needed.
Mark Winkelman, one of seven CU pitchers picked up his second victory (2-0) of the season with a perfect sixth inning. Jimmy Swift also homered for CU, finishing 2-for-2 with two runs, a double and an RBI.
Creighton will travel to Chicago this weekend for a three-game set with Illinois-Chicago. Friday’s contest will start at 4:00 p.m, with Saturday and Sunday starts at 1:00 p.m.
