Budget bills before state legislators

The proposed budget coming out of the appropriations committee is being advanced by the legislature.   Senator Lavon Heidemann of Elk Creek is Chairman of the appropriations committeeSenator Lavon Heidemann Elk Creek.  He remains worried about the future years and the projections of deep losses that could come in April.  A 50 million dollar hole is being filled now, but the future could include a one billion dollar shortfall.  Heidemann talks about one major area of contention in the appropriations committee.
“We recaptured the cost of prental service for unborn children.  This is a program you are all aware of ended at the first of March.”
However, money will be taken from the cash reserve if Senators decide to continue to provide that prenatal care of illegal immigrant mothers.
