Juvenile justice bill advances

Lincoln State Senator Amanda McgillA bill being passed on first round in the legislature would change how juveniles who commit minor offenses would be handled in the state.  The goal is to increase communications and keep the child in school.  Senator Amanda Mcgill of Lincoln says realizing the problems of mental illness with children is also needed.
“In many cases that’s what needs to be treated. they shouldn’t be being put in detention, they’re young enough that we can try to reform them to make sure they’re not going to live a life of crime.”
The bill addresses early intervention, parental involvement, and alternatives to just sending the child off to a detention center.
