Senator Nelson votes no on jobs bill

Senator Ben Nelson voted against ending debate on the Jobs Bill stating  it adds $100-million to the deficit at a time when we can’t afford to pile up more debt.
Senator Nelson did have an amendment to the bill that was blocked by objections from Republicans and it was never considered. The amendment called for fiscal responsibility that would have redirected $35-billion of unobligated stimulus funds to pay for when he sees as nonemergency spending.
Nelson says that amendment would have covered the bills spending to bail out cash-strapped states like Nebraska with additional Medicaid funds to boost Medicaid payments to doctors who recently saw a 22-percent cut go into effect for other programs.
Senator Nelson the bill will likely pass without his vote. However, he is committed to ways to hold down spending in Washington due to a fragile economy.
