A woman and her teenage daughter were walking in the area saw the ice give and the boys plunge into the freezing cold water. Marty Rentschler and his wife saw the ordeal from their home and Rentschler, a former North Platte firefighter, ran to their aid. He grabbed a garden hose and an extension ladder and eased himself onto the pond. He pulled the mother and daughter to safety and another neighbor used the garden hose to get the boys out They were taken to a hospital for treatment of frost nip but have been released and are doing ok.
