Nebraska’s Ndamukong Suh did more than enough to impress scouts at the NFL combine yesterday. Some of his numbers were pretty good, but the fact that they were quite a bit better than Gerald McCoy of Oklahoma should help solidify his position…if that is even possible.
Suh wanted to take part in the combine to show how serious he was about getting ready for his first professional season. Suh jumped 35 ½ inches on his vertical jump, five more inches than McCoy and he was a top performer for D-line in the bench press with 32 reps. McCoy, managed just 23. Suh’s 40 yard dash time was 4.98 and that is the one knock if any on Suh is that he is not as quick off the line as McCoy.
When all is said and done, Suh is going to be one of the top picks, the question is going to be whether or not the St. Louis Rams go with help on the defensive line or go with Sam Bradford at quarterback. My gut tells me, with Steve Spagnuolo in his second year as head coach of the Rams, the former defensive coordinator for the Super Bowl Champion Giants two years ago, will go with defense over a quarterback because there are so many holes to fill on this team. Adding a rookie quarterback to a team with so many needs just hampers that QBs progress. So at this time, I see St. Louis adding Suh.
