Bellevue men win MCAC tournament

Junior Avery Tyler scored 15 second-half points as the Bellevue University men’s basketball team overcame a seven-point halftime deficit, defeating No. 4-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan, 75-72, Saturday night to claim the 2009-10 Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament title at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
With the win, the sixth-ranked Bruins improved to 25-7 on the season, earning an automatic berth to the NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship on Mar. 10-16 in Point Lookout, Mo.
Tyler led four Bruins in double figures with 18 points, while adding four steals and three assists. Senior Antoine Dade and sophomore Jelani Johnson added 13 points apiece and senior Josh Vanderslice poured in 12 points.
