The #1 Broncos continue to advance as they beat the #4 seed Morningside today 76-62. The first 15 minutes of the game was two very good teams battling each other with the score staying close.
The teams traded one point leads for the first 3/4 of the half. In the last 5 minutes, the Broncos put a little distance between the two teams finishing on a 12-4 run, which put them up 36-29 at half. Neither team shot well from the 3 point line going a combined 3-21. Lindsay Ducey led the team with 14 points with Tanaeya Worden leading the Mustangs with 15 points.
In the second half, both teams had little spurts. With tough defense, the Broncos started on an 8-2 run to get up by 13. They caused a shot clock violation and made the Mustangs take tough shots. But then the Mustangs went on their own run to get within one point. The final seven minutes belonged to the home team allowing the Mustangs only 10 points. Hastings also made big free throws down the stretch with Kim Faimon going 10-10 in the second half. Ducey led the way with 30 points, which puts her over 2,000 points in her career. Kim Faimon ended with 16 while Alicia Statler had a double double with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Worden led Morningside with 21 points.
The Broncos avenged an earlier season loss with the win over Morningside, the only conference team to beat the Broncos this year. Hastings will now play in the GPAC Tournament Finals on Tuesday, March 2nd at 7:00 pm in Hastings. They will play #2 Northwestern who beat Briar Cliff.
