Project Extra Mile's Youth Legislative Day

Young people from across the state are gathering in Lincoln today at the state Capitol for Project Extra Mile’s Youth Legislative Day. Executive Director Diane Riibe 60 youth from throughout the state are taking the opportunity to meet with their senator to talk about underage drinking.
Riibe says definitely, LB258 will be a topic of discussion. That bill would allow someone convicted of a minor in possession charge to lose their driving privileges. She says it is also important that youth learn the legislative process early so they know how rules are made and what it takes to get a law on the books. Riibe says many times a young person’s voice is the loudest when it comes to issues like this and she is confident lawmakers will take their message to heart.
Youth from Omaha, Grand Island, Lexington, Nebraska City, Norfolk, Ogallala, Scottsbluff, Wahoo and Wayne are all taking part in today’s event at the Capitol. The students also hosted a lunch for state senators.
