And I was worried about this game against Iowa State for the 3rd ranked Nebraska women’s basketball team? Freshman point guard Lindsey Moore hit four three-pointers and finished with a career best 18 points as NU beat 13th ranked Iowa State 60-50 in front of almost 11,000 fans last night.
Cory Montgomery had 16 points, Kelsey Griffin another double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, Nebraska 24-0 overall and 11-0 in the Big 12 Conference. The Huskers extended their home court winning streak to 17 games.
This game was all about Nebraska’s defense. They shot a season low 38% from the floor, but they held a 24-10 edge in turnovers as Iowa State had to play without All Big 12 point guard Alison Lacey who suffered a concussion in practice on Tuesday.
Vonnie Turner went over the 1,000 point mark for her career and tied a season high with four steals. Turner finished with 8 points. Cory Montgomery came up big for Nebraska late in the first half helping lead a 9-0 run over the final five minutes of the second half to turn a one point deficit into a 27-19 lead. She scored 11 points in the first half including the Huskers’ last seven before the break.
Iowa State cut the Husker lead to two with just under 14 minutest to play, but could never catch NU who had built a double digit lead early in the second half. The Huskers at 24-0 and 11-0 in Big 12 play will host Colorado on Saturday.
