A Hastings man is now jailed after leading law officers on a high-speed chase through Buffalo County on Tuesday afternoon. Kearney police tried to pull over the car driven by 26-year-old Jeremiah Shirley on charges of speeding and reckless driving.
Police say Shirley refused to stop and avoided stop sticks set up by a state trooper, who took over the chase on Highway 30. More stop sticks were deployed in Shelton which flattened a tire and eventually stopped the vehicle after a 13-mile chase at speeds up to 100 miles an hour. Shirley was arrested on a host of charges, including for drugs.
Authorities say they found methamphetamine, a digital scale, cash and a knife in the car.
