Former Star and Lancer score for Team USA

Former Lincoln Star David Backes and former Omaha Lancer Ryan Malone each scored goals in the their Olympic debuts for Team USA in a 3-1 win over Switzerland. Backes scored his goal unassisted just about six minutes into the second period and Malone followed about two and a half minutes later on the power play when he poked one past the Swiss goalie on the power play.
Backes played in the early 2000’s for Lincoln. He picked up a rebound after a save by USA goalie Ryan Miller and went on his off wing up the left side boards, got around a Swiss defensemen and beat the goalie to his left side tucking the puck inside the post.
Malone scored after a shot on goal was laying in front of the Swiss goalie and Malone poked it through his legs. Team USA will play Norway tomorrow at 2pm central time.
