Husker women now 20-0

I was just getting to last week’s Sports Illustrated and I read the back page where the columnist was talking about how dominant UCONN women’s basketball is this season. There’s no doubt they have been and will be a force, but I wonder when the rest of the women’s college basketball world will take notice of our 4th ranked Huskers.
All five of Nebraska’s starters reached double figures and NU had a 51-27 lead over 10th ranked Oklahoma State at halftime enroute to an 88-67 blowout win. Kelsey Griffin led the Huskers with 19 points in just 19 minutes.
The Huskers jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first two and a half minutes and they never looked back. When the Cowgirls finally made their second basket of the game, the score was 29-5 with just over 10 minutes to go in the first half and OSU would never close to closer than 20.
We always talk about the offensive play of the Huskers, but equally as impressive if not better was the defensive job. NU held OSU All-American Andrea Riley, the nation’s leading scorer to just 15 points on 4 of 15 shooting from the field, and just 1 of 5 three-point attempts. Riley also committed three turnvoers, and picked up three fouls in the first four minutes of the second half, and never returned.
This was NU’s third win over a top 10 team this year. In the last 35 years of NU women’s basketball, they also had three wins against top 10 teams.
