No more bad luck in Lubbock

The #6 Nebraska women’s basketball team was led by All-America candidate Kelsey Griffin who scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season as the Husker women won in Lubbock for the first time in program history with an 89-47 win Wednesday night. The Huskers continue their historic run by moving their record to 18-0 and now 5-0 in the Big 12.
The Huskers were hot all night shooting 56% from the floor, hitting on 7 of 16 three pointers and 16 of 18 free throws. The Huskers already had a 20 point lead in the second half when they were up 60-40, but then the defense clamped down on the Red Raiders holding Tech to one field goal for a span of over eight minutes that saw NU go on a 27-3 run.
Junior guard Dominique Kelley added 16 points, five boards and two assists, while senior guard Yvonne Turner continued her torrid shooting from long range by hitting 3-of-5 three-pointers to finish with 13 points, four boards and two assists. Turner has hit 20-of-38 three-pointers over the past four games.
While the Huskers are hitting their three pointers, their Big opponents are coming up empty past the line where the NU defense has given up just two three pointers in 34 attempts. The Huskers have been led all year by their starting five, but it was also nice to see the bench contribute by outscoring Tech’s bench 26-21 for the game.
The Huskers go for 19-0 when they travel to Boulder to play Colorado Saturday.  [box score]
