Omaha Salvation Army goal met

The star on top of the Salvation Army Tree of Lights at 90th and Dodge Streets in Omaha will be flashing tonight. It was announced today that the Salvation Army exceeded their red kettle goal of $2.9-million. The total amount collected during the holiday season was $1,934,000.
Twenty-two thousand people received assistance in the Omaha area alone during the holiday season. The Salvation Army operates 22 different programs for people of all ages and that money will fund those programs throughout the year.
The Salvation Army is now collecting donations to assist those impacted by the tragedy in Haiti. They are also collecting donations for the local heat assistance program that helps people with their monthly heating bill.
