Monument to Pony Express planned for Sidney

If you’re in the giving mood this holiday season, you can help build a National Pony Express Monument in Sidney.
The Sidney Jaycees has launched a website with updates on the national Pony Express Monument planned for Sidney. So far, $40,000 of the projected $175,000 has been raised to build the monument, which planners hope will be built in time to coincide with the 150th Anniversary of the Pony Express next June.
Website visitors can see a list of materials and cost breakdowns and make tax-deductible donations. The Cheyenne County Visitors Committee has already pledged over $37,000. The Jaycees have taken their fund-raising campaign to the national level now in hopes of raising the money in time.
Funds for the bronze sculpture and granite monuments are due by the end of January or the project may be forced to be postponed to the summer of 2011. Check out the website at pxmonument.org.
