Major propane tank explosion in Norfolk

Emergency workers scrambled to evacuate homes and businesses this morning, but they were successful in getting residents out of in the way in south Norfolk as firefighters battled a huge propane tank fire.
First responders were faced with a 30,000 gallon propane tank near the former Protient plant.  It all started around seven Thursday morning.
Authorities were going door to door to carry out a mandatory evacuation of every building within a one-mile radius of the fire. Evacuees faced bitter wind chills dipping well below zero. They were directed to go to the city auditorium. No injuries were reported.
