A Cuban national who resides in Miami, Florida, has been sentenced in federal court in Florence, South Carolina for fraudulent use of gift cards. Roberto Periut Pina, age 27 was sentenced in federal court in Florence for possession of counterfeit Wal-Mart gift cards.
Last February, Pina attempted to use a Wal-Mart gift card in a Florence Wal-Mart on when employees became suspicious and called the police.When Pina was arrested and searched, officers found 92 counterfeit cards along with a false identification. A GPS unit in Pina’s car revealed directions to 27 Wal-Mart stores in 22 cities between Miami and Florence. However, none of the other stores had yet reported losses associated with Pina.
Pina was sentenced to 12 months incarceration and he was ordered cooperate with immigration authorities regarding deportation.
