Governor defends comments following floor debate

Governor Dave Heineman wants to clear up a misunderstanding from some state senators over his view on the budget cutting proposal from the appropriations committee.
“Since the day I announced the Special Session on November 2nd. I’ve been saying that we need to reduce this revenue shortfall by reducing spending not by increasing taxes, I’ve said that repeatedly. I’ve said when family income is down, families need to reduce spending. When state Government revenue is down we need to reduce spending. I am not implying that there is a tax increase in this bill.”
Governor Heineman tells us that he thinks they are all working toward the same goal, to try to deal with the 335 million dollar budget shortfall. Governor Heineman says, by an large, they’ve adopted the budget he proposed with some disagreements.
