Special Session debate on education underway

It’s day seven of the Special Session, but only their first day of debate. State Senator Greg Adams of York is head of the education committee and explains how funding would be reduced to schools in order to help clear up a $334 million dollar deficit.
“If approved by you, what we’re going to say to school districts for one year – we’re going to slow down your spending and the cost growth factor is going to be reduced that we grow your general fund operating expenditure by.”
Adams emphasizes that under the plan, School districts will not see their funding lowered this year, but during the 2010 – 2011 school year. The proposal calls for a $32 million cut from education.
