UN-Kearney prepares for D-II playoffs

Nebraska-Kearney Loper football coach Darrell Morris said “We’re gonna dance with the girl who brought us,” meaning the Lopers expect to play their type of football Saturday against Saginaw Valley State in the first round of the Division II football playoffs. ┬áThat could be bad news for the Cardinals.
The Lopers are led by Kearney native and sophomore running back Rustin Dring who is 6th in the nation in rushing despite missing a game. Dring has averaged 137 yards per game and has scored eight touchdowns. If SVS wants to shut down Dring, they’ll leave themselves open to the arm of Jake Spitzlberger who has thrown for 21 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He is averaging 187 yards through the air.
Morris has been impressed with his team’s focus this season. After dropping a heartbreaker 21-16 loss to Wayne State in the season opener, the Lopers rattled off 10 straight wins for their first double-digit win season and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship.
