Husker soccer dropped in Big 12 opener

The Nebraska soccer team fell behind two goals in the first half and never recovered falling to Oklahoma State 3-0 in the opening round of the Big 12 Tournament on Wednesday in San Antonio, 3-0.
The Cowgirls scored in the 11th minute when Kasey Langdon sent a pass to Annika Niemeier who buried it into the left side of the net. Katie Richardson extended the OSU lead to 2-0 with eight minutes remaining in the first half, dribbling into the box and banking one in off the post from 10 yards out.
Senior Shay Powell who took five shots got stopped by OSU’s goalie on a header that would have given NU their first goal of the game. Nebraska outshot Oklahoma State, 14-10. The Huskers are now 11-5-4 with a 5-4-2 record in Big 12 play. This early exit could hurt NU’s shot at getting into the NCAAs. The field for the 2009 NCAA Tournament will be announced on Monday.
