How will cuts hurt colleges?

Officials of higher education are among those wondering how much they’ll be cut back when the Nebraska Legislature meets in special session next month. Across-the-board reductions are likely in light of lower state revenue. Dennis Baack is Executive Director of the Nebraska Community Colleges Association. Baack says higher education, K-through-12 education and state agencies won’t know how much they’ll have to chop until the forecasting board releases a new revenue estimate, October 27th.
This year, Southeast Community College received an additional boost in state aid along with four other two-year schools, because Metro Community College submitted a state aid request using different criteria, which would inflate that school’s aid amount.
